How to play

1. Choose a level: Level 1: Finish the joke asks you to find a missing word. Level 2: Explain the pun shows the complete joke and asks why the wordplay works.
2. Choose an answer. Use a hint, try another choice or reveal the answer if you need a hand.
3. Read the explanation, then meet the next animal. After six rounds, review your word discoveries.

Each game picks six different puns from a set of ten. Both levels have hints and explanations. There is no timer. Read with a partner if any words are new to you. Play the same level again, or choose another level for a fresh game. Changing levels starts a new six-round game.

Two ways words can be playful

Some puns use words that sound alike, such as paws and pause. Others use one word with different meanings: bark can be a dog sound or the outside of a tree. Say the words aloud and talk about the connection.

The animals and their adventures are make-believe. If a sound-alike pair sounds different in your accent, explore the explanation together.
